Heifer International

Our 2023 Heifer International Holiday Living Gift Market was a huge success!  With the matching offer from a group of generous Heifer Community Donors, we raised $4145.00.  Thanks to all who participated in this most important event.  Our Sunday School will be offering this alternative gift giving option again during the 2024 Holiday Season!

“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day.  Teach him how to fish and you feed him for his life time.”

Heifer International works to end hunger and poverty in partnership with the communities they serve.  Their programs support entrepreneurs around the world, creating lasting change from the ground up.  It begins with a seed investment of livestock or agriculture, followed by mentorship to help project participants build a business, and ultimately to gain access to supply chains and markets.  These families are able to earn a living income and continuously lift up their communities as they train the next generation of leaders.  By supporting and training the world’s farmers, ranchers, and female business owners, they are investing in a new breed of success.

The Dublin Community Church Sunday School has been an active supporter of Heifer for many years.  On the first Sunday of Advent each year the children present their church family with a well-organized opportunity to engage in “alternative giving.”  Symbolic goats, bees, trees, fish, heifers, chicks, sheep, water buffaloes, rabbits, bio-gas stoves…the list is long!  The buyer purchases the animal, gifts that improve sanitation, health and access to clean water, or even help send a girl to school; in return the buyer is given honor cards that can be given to the recipients of these valuable gifts.  The sale takes place on all four Sundays of Advent.  The Pandemic Christmas of 2020 saw our doors shuttered.  But we made friends with Rachel, a Heifer worker from Concord, who set us up with our very own personalized site to purchase our gifts on line; that will be an alternative option going forward.  Our church has raised thousands of dollars for this most worthy cause over the years.
